Punjab: Govt conducts campaign to create awareness among farmers about better management & mixing of stubble in fields instead of burning
In Punjab, currently the paddy harvesting season is on full swing. The state government ran a long campaign to create awareness among farmers about better management as well as mixing of stubble in the fields instead of burning. But despite this, the incidents of stubble burning are on the rise in the state.
There is a complete ban on stubble burning in the state, yet the cases of stubble burning are increasing day by day.
Within five days of the start of paddy harvesting season, the paddy burning incident number has reached at 654, out of which the maximum incidents have been reported from the border district of Amritsar.
Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Patiala, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and Jalandhar districts also reported some such fire incidents.
According to sources the lack of strict action by authorities in various districts is one of the main reasons for the continuous increase in the incidents of stubble burning. The air quality index has also started deteriorating in the state after stubble burning.
