Hyderabad: ‘Technology plays a major role’; says Uma Rao, CHRO of Granules India at GITAM
The field of Pharmaceuticals has witnessed significant changes in recent years, with the emergence of new technologies playing a vital role in shaping its future. Recognizing the importance of technology in the Pharma Industry, Career Guidance Centre of GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad organized the ‘Pharma Conclave-2023’ with the theme of ‘Future of Pharma – Need of the Hour’ on October 6, 2023.
The conclave provided a platform for experts from the pharmaceutical industry to exchange ideas, bridge courses, and collaborate on cutting-edge research that can potentially pave the way for a better future. Distinguished guests, including industry leaders and professionals, graced the event, sharing their insights and forecasts for the future.
Uma Rao, CHRO of Granules India, emphasized the significant role of technology in the growth of the Pharma industry. She forecasted that the global market revenue of the Pharma industry would reach approximately $1.2 trillion USD by 2031, with job opportunities increasing by 2 percent, data science by 21 percent, and sales by 4 percent. Rao stressed the importance of honing skills like teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, technical analytical thinking, and strong numerical skills for thriving in the Pharma profession.
Tilak Kumar Sha, VP Quality & Compliance of Zenara Pharma, provided an overview of the job opportunities available in the Pharma industry and highlighted the promising career prospects.
Dr. Subas Chandra Mohapatra, Director of Regulatory at Novartis, emphasized the need for innovative individuals in the Pharma industry and shared insights on areas offering job opportunities.
Prof. Jagattaran Das, Dean of GITAM School of Pharmacy, appealed to the Pharma industry to focus more on research and expressed a desire for the research area to grow similar to the defense sector.
Prof. Venu Kumar Nathi, Director of the Career Guidance Centre, emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange among professionals in the Pharma industry, leading to increased visibility and potential partnerships.
The conclave also witnessed the participation of esteemed professionals from various companies, including Aurobindo Pharma, Hetero, Jodas Expoim, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Sri Krishna Pharma, Tech Mahindra, and Silpa Medicare.
Dr. Ramakant Bal, CFO of GITAM School of Pharmacy, delivered the welcome address, while Prof. G.S. Kumar, Principal of GITAM School of Pharmacy, proposed the vote of thanks.
