Sikkim: 23 army personnel reported missing after cloudburst triggers flash flood
In Sikkim, 23 army personnel have been reported missing and some vehicles submerged under slush after cloudburst at Bardang near Singtam over Lhonak Lake in Mangan, triggering a flash flood in Teesta river in Lachen valley, affecting army establishments along the valley.
Speaking to Akashvani News, Vice Chairman of Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority, V K Sharma informed that flooding is reportedly caused by a cloudburst and probable outburst of glacial lakes in Mangan district, which is being ascertained.
Mr Sharma said that while the disaster has affected telephone and road connectivity on National Highway 10, which connects Sikkim to West Bengal, at several places, loss of life is yet to be confirmed.

He informed that the release of 4000-6000 cusecs of water from Teesta dams has caused flooding and washing away of bridges, disrupting connectivity. Meanwhile Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has reached Singtam to take stock of the situation.
