Visakhapatnam: Indira Gandhi Zoological Park conducts successful clean-up program under Swachhatha Hi Seva
As a part of the Swachhatha Hi Seva campaign Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam conducted a successful clean-up program on October 1, 2023 from 10am to 11am within the Zoo premises.
The event witnessed active participation from various stakeholders, including Andhra University (AU), NSS students, students from various colleges and the other Government departments like Customs, GST etc.
The Swachhatha Hi Seva campaign is a nationwide initiative by Govt. Of India that encourages citizens to actively engage in cleaning their surroundings. Vizag Zoo took this opportunity to make a significant impact on the cleanliness of its premises.
The clean-up program saw an enthusiastic turnout of volunteers who diligently worked towards cleaning up the zoo premises. Armed with gloves, trash bags, and a shared dedication to a cleaner environment, participants combed through various areas of the zoo.
Sh. Sanjay Panth, Chief Commissioner, GST & Customs, Vizag Zone, Sh. Nagarjun Grandhi, Joint Commissioner & Shri P. Suresh, Assistant Commissioner both from CGST Audit Commissionerate, Visakhapatnam participated in the event along with 40 members form the department.
Sh. Krishna Mohan, OSD, AU participated in the event and encouraged the volunteers to make it a regular practice to clean their surroundings. By the end of the event, the collective efforts of all participants resulted in the collection of approximately 85 kilograms of waste, including plastics, wrappers, and other non-biodegradable materials.
This waste removal significantly improved the cleanliness of the Vizag Zoo premises. Dr. Nandani Salaria, IFS expressed her gratitude to all the participants and stakeholders. “We are very happy with the success of our Swachhatha Hi Seva campaign event, she said.
It demonstrates that when individuals, institutions, and government agencies come together for a common cause, we can achieve remarkable results, she added. About 250 students from various colleges and officials from various Government departments participated in the event.
