Asian Games: India to take on China in Badminton for gold; clinches 38 medals at end of Day 7 to stand at 4th in tally

On Day 8 of the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, India men’s badminton team will take on defending champions China, in the final today. Yesterday, India defeated Korea by 3-2 to enter the final.

In other categories, Aditi Ashok is currently in pole position to win gold in women’s individual golf, with India also in medal contention in women’s team golf. Ashok, who finished fourth in Tokyo Olympics, is gunning for glory and ended round 3 in pole position yesterday.

Indian women’s hockey team is also taking on South Korea today in their second match of the continental showdown. Apart from that the focus will be on star pugilist Nikhat Zareen, who steps in the ring against Raksat Chuthamat of Thailand in the women’s 50kg semifinal today.

In the track and field events, Murali Sreeshankar and Jeswin Aldrin will compete in men’s long jump final today. Avinash Sable, who broke the Kenyan hegemony in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year, will compete in the men’s steeplechase final also.
 
In archery qualification rounds, Tushar Shelke, Atanu Das, Mirnal Chauhan and Dhiraj Bommadevara will be competing for recurve men’s individual category. While, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, Avneet Kaur and Aditi Swami will be in action for compound women’s individual category, Prathamesh Jawkar, Ojas Pravin Deotale, Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan will be vying for compound men’s individual category. Also, Prachi Singh, Simranjeet Kaur, Bhajan Kaur and Ankita Bhakat will be in action in recurve women’s individual category. 

In athletics, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Sahib Singh will be in action in Men’s shot put final while Jeswin Aldrin and Sreeshankar Murali will be competing in the Men’s long jump final. The other events in the category in which Indian athlets will be seen in the finals are Avinash Sable – Men’s 3000 meter steeplechase, Seema Punia – Women’s discus throw, Harmilan Bains and Deeksha – Women’s 1,500 meter, Jinson Johnson and Ajay Saroj – Men’s 1,500 meter, Jyothi Yarraji and Nithya Ramraj – Women’s 100 meter hurdles.

So far, India took up its overall medals tally to 38, with 10 Gold, 14 Silver, and 14 Bronze at the ongoing Asian Games. India currently stands at the 4th position on the scoreboard.
