The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has directed Karnataka to abide by the order issued by the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC) to release 3,000 Cusecs of Cauvery water everyday to Tamil Nadu till October 15th. In the meeting held in New Delhi today, the Authority issued the directions to release the said quantity of water for 18 days.

Reacting to the directions by the Authority, both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar have said that they will seek legal remedy as releasing water will jeopardise demands for water to the standing crop and drinking water in Karnataka.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Bandh called by Pro Kannada and Farmers organisations concluded peacefully. The Bandh was against the release of Cauvery River water to Tamilnadu.

Shops and establishments, schools and colleges, Malls and cinema halls, cabs and auto rickshaws remained closed today in Bengaluru and other parts of the state. Many flights were cancelled today at Kempegowda International Airport due to Karnataka bandh.

However public transport like buses and Metro trains functioned normally in Bengaluru. The police had clamped Prohibitory orders and taken several pro-Kannada activists into preventive custody. In Bengaluru 60 KSRP and 40 CAR platoons were deputed on duty to maintain law and order.
