Maharashtra: Onion traders from Nashik threaten to stop auctions over export duty from Sep 20
In Maharashtra, onion traders from Nashik district have threatened to stop onion auctions from tomorrow. They are demanding the withdrawal of export duty hike, uniform commission across the country, and purchase of onion by NAFED & NCCF in Agriculture Products Market Committees, APMCs.
District Collector Jalaj Sharma tried to convince them but they were firm on their demands. Nashik is one of the major onion-producing districts in the country. It has 17 APMCs and traders’ strikes can cause loss of around 40 crore rupees per day.
