US Open: Novak Djokovic stormed into second round of Men’s Singles category

In Tennis, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season, the US Open began in New York last night. Star Serbian player Novak Djokovic stormed into the second round of the Men’s Singles category with a dominant victory against Frenchman Alexandre Muller 6-0, 6-2, 6-3.

With this, Djokovic has also regained the World No.1 rank leaving Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz behind. He will next face Bernabe Zapata Miralles of Spain in the second round. Meanwhile, Borna Gojo of Croatia also reached the next round defeating Bolivian player Hugo Dellien 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.  Earlier, Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud of Norway also progressed to the second round. While Danish player Holger Rune crashed out. 

In Women’s Singles, veteran Danish player Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the next round defeating Tatiana Prozorova of Russia 6-3, 6-2. Polish player Magda Linette also progressed to the second round defeating  Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus 6-3, 6-1.

Earlier, star US player Coco Gauff, Defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland, Karolína Muchová of Czech Republic, Swiss player Belinda Bencic, Belarusian player Victoria Azarenka and Daria Saville of Australia also advanced to the second round of Women’s Singles.
