Himachal Pradesh: Rescue teams search for missing people in devastated Shiv Bawri Temple after landslide
In the Summerhill area of Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, the rescue teams have been searching for missing people in the devastated Shiv Bawri Temple after the landslide.
The joint rescue teams from the Army, NDRF, SDRF, police, and home guards recovered three bodies on the 11th day of the incident. Shimla’s Police Chief Sanjeev Gandhi today said that the search operation has concluded, and all bodies of the missing people have been recovered from the incident site. During this tragic event, a total of 20 bodies, including the temple priest, were recovered.
It may be noted that on the morning of the 14th of August, around 7:30 AM, the Shiv Bawri Temple was devastated due to a landslide and flooding. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhkhu, BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda, and the Union Minister of Sports and Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur, visited the incident site to assess the situation.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next 24 hours in five districts – Sirmaur, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra, and an orange alert has been issued for Chamba due to the adverse weather conditions. Considering the bad weather, the administrations of Mandi and Shimla districts have decided to keep all educational institutions closed on the 25th of August.
