Australian Open: HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and PV Sindhu advance to singles pre-quarterfinals
In Australian Open Badminton, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and PV Sindhu today advanced to the second round of the tournament. Sixth seed Prannoy beat Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu 21-18, 16-21, 21-15 in a hard-fought game in the first round.
Earlier Kidambi Srikanth beat Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto 21-18, 21-7 to move into Round Two.
Meanwhile, Mithun Manjunath registered a sensational victory, beating former World Champion Loh Kean Yew 21-19, 21-19 in Round of 32. However, Lakshya Sen suffered an injury and retired from the first-round contest against Kiran George. In the women’s event, PV Sindhu won her first-round match by defeating compatriot Ashmita Chaliha by 21-18, 21-13.
