MD NHIDCL, Chanchal Kumar visits Z-More and Zojila Road Tunnel projects in Kashmir Valley to review the progress of work
In the Kashmir Valley, the Managing Director, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Chanchal Kumar visited Z-Morh and Zojila Road Tunnel Projects in the Ganderbal district yesterday, July 20 to review their progress. He also chaired review meetings at the site offices and took detailed stock of the progress of all the components associated with the projects.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chanchal said that both the projects once completed, will entirely transform the socioeconomic aspect of the area by promoting tourism. He said the projects also have a strategic role as they will provide an all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh which will facilitate easier movement of the Armed Forces and their logistics to the higher reaches of Leh.
He appreciated the efforts of the executing ground team for constructing such projects of national importance in harsh climatic conditions. He instructed all the stakeholders of both projects to complete the projects on Scheduled Completion Date.
While reviewing the work progress of the Z-Morh project, it was informed that current work completion is about 77 percent and the work progress of the Zojila tunnel project is 35 percent as on date. Z-Morh project comprises of 6.5 km tunnel with a parallel escape tunnel and a 5.5 km approach road.
After completion, it will provide an all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Sonamarg. The road gets disconnected for 4 months due to harsh winter conditions. Similarly, the Zojila project comprises of over 13 km of main tunnel and nearly 18 km of approach road. The project is scheduled to be completed in the month of September 2026.
