Mumbai: IMD warns of heavy rainfall in Mumbai; Issues orange alert for 10 districts of Maharashtra today
India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in Mumbai today. All government and private schools in Mumbai have been closed today. IMD has also issued an orange alert for 10 districts of Maharashtra including Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, Satara, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Gondia districts with the possibility of heavy rainfall.
According to a prediction issued by the IMD today morning, Intermittent moderate to intense spells of rain will continue over parts of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar for the next 3-4 hours. The IMD also predicted that intense spells of rain is very likely over parts of north eastern suburbs, Thane and Raigad. An incident of landslide has been reported at the Khalapur tehsil in the Raigad District. Two teams of NDRF have been deployed.
According to Raigad police administration, 22 people have been rescued so far. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the disaster control room at Mumbai’s civic headquarters yesterday evening and reviewed the situation. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Shinde said the entire machinery is alert and out on the field to assist citizens.
