Statistical data plays an important role for development of the country: MoS Rao Inderjit Singh
Minister of State, Independent Charge, for Statistics and Programme Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh today said that statistical data plays an important role for the development of the country, especially in achieving Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
Speaking at the event on the 17th Statistics Day in New Delhi, the Minister said this day provides opportunities to recognise the importance of statistics, as evidence for policy making and strengthening statistical capabilities of India.
The Minister said last year the Ministry has created a National indicator framework that facilitates the monitoring of the progress of SDGs and their associated targets nationally.
Mr Singh added the Ministry has been playing a significant role in providing a framework to monitor the progress of SDGs at National and State levels.
Every year on June 29th, India commemorates National Statistics Day, to honor the last scientist Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis and his contribution to the field of statistics and economic planning. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness among the public about the role of the significance of Statistics in Socioeconomic planning and policy formulation.
