Tripuraa: 79 thousand kgs of cannabis (Ganja) destroy in last year
In Tripura, 79 thousand kgs of cannabis (ganja) have been destroyed in the last year. Inspector General of Police (crime), Mr. L. Darlong said that the police along with other central agencies like the Narcotics Control Bureau and DRI have been making relentless efforts to seize and destroy drugs in each and every form.
He said, Tripura ranks first among the northeastern state with regard to seizure of drugs and destruction. Apart from cannabis, the IG said, 1.73 lakh bottles of cough syrup, 2.2 lakh tablets which are consumed by drug addicts and brown sugar to the tune of 7 kg have been destroyed in the last year.
Mr. Darlong said that cannabis is produced at various inaccessible places in Tripura. However, by acting on specific inputs from the technical intelligence team the police have been successful in destroying 42 lakh plants of ganja in the last year.
The police, he added have been creating awareness among youth especially students from schools and colleges on the ill effects of drug abuse.
