IMD issues heavy rainfall alert for Mumbai, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra & Vidarbha over next two days
After a lull in the first half of June, southwest monsoon has finally arrived in Mumbai. The city and its suburbs continue to witness intermittent rains, which have brought down temperatures and some relief from scorching heat.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Mumbai, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha over the next two days. While heavy rains since the past two have brought water logging and traffic snarls across Mumbai, lake levels have not registered any significant rise.
Till Sunday morning, the water stock of all seven lakes was merely 6.67 percent of their total capacity. The same level was 9.34% in 2022 and 16.25% in 2021. According to civic officials, there need to be continuous rains for water levels to rise, failing which Mumbai may have to brace up for water cuts early next month.
