As heavy rain has led to a flood-like situation in various regions of Assam, Home Minister Amit Shah today expressed his concern and pledged full support to the affected population.

In a tweet, Mr Shah said that he assured Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of all possible assistance from the central government.

He also informed that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in the state and they are actively engaged in conducting relief and rescue operations on the ground. The Minister added, adequate forces are on standby.

Meanwhile, the flood situation improved further in Assam this morning due to good weather conditions. The water level started receding slightly in most of the areas.

However, over 4 lakh people are still reeling under the fury of floods in 15 districts that are mostly located in Lower Assam.

The surging water caused damage to the infrastructure including roads, wooden bridges, houses and embankments. Rising water snapped vehicular movements in many places.

District administrations have set up over 100 relief camps and relief distribution centres at flood-affected places and necessary materials are being distributed. Bajali and  Nalbari are among the worst affected areas.
