Two-day G20 Labour Engagement Group meeting to begin today in Patna, Bihar

The two-day meeting of the G-20 Labour Engagement Group will start today at Patna in Bihar. Around 150 delegates from G-20 members and eight guest countries will participate in the meeting. Governor of Bihar Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar will inaugurate the function organised at Ashoka Convention Centre in Patna.

Union Minister for Labour and Employment Bhupendra Yadav and State Labour Resource Minister Surendra Ram will also address the Inaugural session. The Chairman of L-20 Group, Hiranmaya Pandya told media persons that besides several issues the main agenda of discussion will be the universalisation of social security and enhancement of women’s participation in the workforce which is around 32 per cent globally.

Mr. Pandya said the pathetic condition of migrant workers will also be discussed during brainstorming sessions. He said the issue of knowledge and skill gap among workers has also been added in talking points. The Chairman said during the meetings the Labour Engagement group and Business 20 group also discuss employment scenarios especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. The delegates will also think over subject of new employment opportunities and challenges in the G20 countries.
