Tamil Nadu: Heavy rain lashes several parts of the state: Schools closed in many districts

In Tamil Nadu, bringing respite from the summer season, there was heavy downpour since yesterday evening. Regional Met Department has predicted rains for some more days in the State.

Some flights were diverted from Chennai airport as it had witnessed the maximum amount of 16 cm rainfall on a single day. 

Schools in almost six districts including Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur were closed as these placews had registered more than ten centimetres of rain in the past 24 hours.

The Chennai Corporation has opened control rooms to enable people to report in case of any emergency. Low lying areas were cleared immediately by deployment of 2000 workers.
