Govt made significant progress in tackling climate change, achieving Sustainable Development Goals: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the government has taken significant strides in combating climate change, achieving sustainable development goals and preserving country’s rich biodiversity.
In a tweet, Mr Modi said that in line with India’s traditions and ethos the government has focused on sustainable growth in nine years.
India is experiencing the fastest adoption of renewable and non-conventional clean energy sources. Renewable energy capacity has increased 1.97 times in the last nine years, and solar energy has expanded over 18 times.
India now stands 4th globally in renewable energy installed capacity, wind power capacity, and solar power capacity. It has achieved the target of 40 percent of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil energy sources as committed at COP21, nine years ahead of schedule in 2021.
