Indian Coast Guard organizes mega blood donation camp on the occasion of World Blood Donors Day
New Delhi: 14 Jun 23: In order to celebrate World Blood Donor Day, Directorate of Medical, Indian Coast Guard conducted a Blood Donation Camp at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year since 2004, throughout the world on 14 Jun to raise awareness regarding blood donation and to recognize the contribution of voluntary unpaid blood donors in saving lives and improving health.
Every blood donation is a precious life saving gift and repeat donation is the key to building a safe and sustainable blood supply to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Access to safe and secure blood supply based on the voluntary non-remunerated donation is vital for management of accident and trauma victims, patients requiring surgeries, cancer patients, cases of bleeding during pregnancy and child birth, cases of anemia including those requiring life-long and regular blood transfusions for conditions such as Sickle Cell Anemia and Thalassemia etc.
The celebration of World Blood Donor Day on 14 Jun 23, is one of the activity under “Raktdan Amrit Mahotsav” approved under “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”. The slogan for this year’s World Blood Donor day campaign is “Give Blood, Give Plasma, Share Life, share Often”.
Hence, a Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with Armed Forces Transfusion Centre (AFTC), New Delhi was conducted at Coast Guard Headquarters. The Blood Donation Camp was inaugurated by ADG Rakesh Pal, PTM, TM, DGICG (Addl Charge) in presence of other officials.
Post inauguration of the camp, a small Power Point Presentation was also delivered to raise awareness among personnel about blood donation. Moreover, blood donation camps also being undertaken PAN India (at ICG units/establishments).
