Indonesia Open: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy advance to second round of Singles event in Jakarta
In Badminton, HS Prannoy sailed into the second round of Indonesia Open today.
World number 8, Prannoy, who won the Malaysia Masters last month defeated World No. 11 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 21-16, 21-14 in first round of Men’s Singles.
Seventh seed Prannoy will take on World Number 16 Angus Ng Ka Long in the second round. Angus of Hong Kong got the better of two-time World Champion Kento Momota of Japan in the opening round.
In Women’s Singles, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu overpowered home favourite Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, 21-19, 21-15 in first round.
India’s Men’s Doubles pairs of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will play France’s Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov while MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will be up against Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.
However, Women’s Doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand was knocked out of the tournament by Japan combination of Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi.
The tournament will conclude on 18th of this month.
