Karnataka: Enrollment to get free electricity under Grihajyoti will begin from June 15: Minister K J George
Karnataka Energy Minister K J George today clarified the guidelines under which 200 units of free power will be introduced from June 15th. Those seeking free power under Gruha Jyoti should enroll through the Seva Sindhu portal of the State Government.
They need to upload proof that they are residents of the building which includes Aadhar card, Voter ID, title deed, or lease or rental agreement. The electricity company will record the average annual consumption of power in that building in the last fiscal. If a consumer uses an average of 150 units of power per year, they will be eligible to get up to 165 units of electricity free.
Any excess over the average plus 10 percent will have to be paid by the consumer. If the annual average is above 200 units, then the entire amount of the bill has to be paid by the consumer.
According to the power minister, the state has 2.16 crore consumers who use less than 200 units of power and only two lakh consumers use more than 200 units of electricity. The average consumption of domestic power is 53 units in the state. The Gruha Jyoti scheme is expected to cost the state exchequer around 13000 crore rupees.
