India will have 200-220 more airports, heliports, and water aerodromes in next five years: Jyotiraditya Scindia
Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today said, in the next five years, India will have 200-220 more airports, heliports, and water aerodromes. Mr Scindia said that now there are 14 greenfield airports in the country.
Addressing the media in New Delhi on the completion of nine years of the government Mr Scindia said that the Indian Civil Aviation is the third largest aviation sector in the world. Speaking about the growth of domestic air traffic,
Mr Scindia informed that the number of domestic passengers which was only 6 crore in 2013-24, has now increased to 14.50 crore registering a growth of 130 percent in the last nine years. He said, the number of international air traffic also increased by 50 percent to 7 crore passengers.
The Minister said, the number of airports and heliports which were only 74 in 68 years after the independence, the number in the last nine years reached 148.
