Indian Coast Guard Celebration of Mission LiFE at Port Blair
CGRHQ (A&N), Port Blair, organized a series of events, for celebrating mission LiFE and as a run-up to World Environment Day. The events included Run for Fun, Bicycle Rally, Open Sea Swimming, Tree Plantation Drive and Beach Cleaning efforts at Corbyn’s Cove Beach. The events were aimed to disseminate the message of protecting environment by choosing a healthy lifestyle for environment.
Mission LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment) is an India led global mass movement to nudge individual and community action, to protect environment. On the occasion of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, introduced the mission ‘LiFE’, to engage individuals in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
This initiative encourages a lifestyle that focuses on mindful and deliberate utilization of resources and aims to change ‘use and dispose of’ consumption habits. To spread mass awareness about Mission LiFE, 75 personnel participated in the event, commemorating 75 years of Independence, celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N), flagged off the events. A tree plantation drive was also organized in conjunction to Mission LiFE and as a run-up to World Environment Day, wherein 75 tree saplings were planted.
The event witnessed active participation from Indian Coast Guard personnel & families and young cadets of 1 Naval NCC unit, Andaman. The Beach clean-up efforts, led to collection of 85 Kgs of litter, from Corbyn’s Cove Beach. The events disseminated the positive message of choosing a sustainable lifestyle for protecting environment, through commitment to sustainability.
