G20 3rd HWG meeting begin in Hyderabad to carry forward agenda of G20 Health Track under India’s Presidency
The G20 3rd Health Working Group meeting begin this morning in Hyderabad to carry forward the agenda of the G20 Health Track under India’s Presidency. The 3-day meeting will focus on three priorities including Health Emergencies Prevention, Preparedness, and Response, Access, and Availability to Affordable Medical countermeasures, and Digital Health.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Lav Agarwal informed the media that the meeting will voice the challenges of the Global South and discuss the solutions. He said India has garnered in-principal agreement to the three proposed priorities and seeks to build global convergence on an agile, aligned global health architecture.
He said India’s G20 Presidency comes up with a unique opportunity to voice the concerns of the Global South as the predecessor Indonesia and the successor, Brazil of India in the G20 Troika are both developing countries, and the same will further highlight and reinforce the challenges facing the global south.
He said India will share its experience of its initiatives like Co-Win and Vaccine Maitri and how technology has been a great enabler in reaching the last mile through telemedicine.
The 3rd G20 Health Working Group meeting will begin this morning in Hyderabad with Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya formally inaugurating side event Exhibition and the meeting.
The Troika countries will set the agenda for the deliberations for the next three days. Separate sessions will focus on the initiatives on Health Emergencies Prevention, Preparedness and Response and Strengthening Cooperation in Pharmaceutical Sector with Focus on Access and Availability to Safe, Effective, Quality, and Affordable Medical Countermeasures will be discussed besides bilateral meetings. In addition, the meeting will focus on Research and Development and Innovation in its side events.
Representatives of 180 member countries, 10 invitees, and 22 international organisations will be attending the three-day G20 meeting. The G20 delegates will be visiting Genome Valley and will witness India’s prowess in research and development and pharmaceutical manufacturing in Hyderabad. —Lakshmi, Akashavani News, Hyderabad.
