June 5 2023; mark of 50th World Environment Day: Theme- A solution to plastic pollution
5 June 2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day after it was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Over the past five decades, the day has grown to be one of the largest global platforms for environmental outreach.
Tens of millions of people participate online and through actions on the ground. From schools and community groups to businesses, cities and governments, everyone is encouraged to host and register an event or action onto the around 5 June for World Environment Day.
This year, the theme for World Environment Day 2023 is #BeatPlasticPollution. Plastic pollution has become a pressing concern worldwide. It has devastating effects on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health.
The theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ aims to highlight the urgent need to tackle this issue and find sustainable solutions. It emphasises the role of individuals, communities, and governments in reducing plastic waste and promoting a circular economy.
