SCR registers record performance in both passenger and freight segments in May-2023

On Passenger front, SCR surpasses Rs. 500 crs in a month for the first time in any financial year.

In freight segment, SCR registers best ever monthly freight loading of 12.517 MTs in the month of May, 2023

South Central Railway has registered its best ever monthly performance in both passenger and freight segment in the month of May, 2023. The Zone has crossed Rs 500 crore mark in monthly Passenger revenue for the first time and has achieved originating passenger revenue of Rs.513.41 Crores during May 2023. The previous best was Rs 467.82 Crore which was earned in April, 2023. Similarly, the zone has transported 12.517 Million Tonnes of originating freight during the month of May, 2023 which is the highest ever and the previous best was 12.370 MTs in March, 2023.

The Zone has carried 26.11 Million passengers in the month of May, 2023 witnessing the growth of 24% when compared with the 21.12 Million passengers in the May month of 2022. Apart from the regular trains, the Zone has operated 538 trips of special trains in the month of May to meet the additional rush during the summer season. This has helped in transporting additionally 4.65 lakhs of passengers, while generating Rs. 36.52 Crs of revenue.

On the freight segment, the Zone has transported 12.517 MTs of freight loading in May 2023, which is the best-ever freight loading achieved for any month in any financial year. This is nearly 7% more than the corresponding loading recorded last year. Simultaneously, freight revenue has grown by 14% during this year growing to Rs. 1213.36 crs in May, 2023, compared to Rs. 1065.15 crs in May, 2022.

Coal continued to lead the growth in the overall freight loading of the Zone by registering 7% growth and contributing 6.484 MTs of loading. Other significant commodities which have contributed towards overall freight loading of SCR includes: Cement (3.106 MTs), Food grains (0.444 MTs), Fertilizers (0.740 MTs), Iron Ore (0.363 MTs) and Containers (0.211 MTs) among others. The Zone has been giving special thrust towards strengthening its freight traffic by implementing wide variety of initiatives and special measures. The Zone has been moving in a proactive manner to attract the new streams of traffic and also retaining the existing traffic.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway has congratulated both the Operating and Commercial teams for this outstanding achievement. He expressed his satisfaction for the way in which the Zone is registering the best performance month by month. The General Manager also appreciated the staff of all departments for maintaining the excellent coordination which has led to the improvement towards the overall performance of the Zone.
