Agriculture Ministry: National Workshop on “Per Drop More Crop” in New Delhi
A National Workshop on Per Drop More Crop was organized by Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare was organized in New Delhi today to discuss with the stakeholders the various approaches which can be adopted for increasing penetration of micro irrigation in the country.
Participants from various Ministries and Departments of Central Government, States and UT’s, Irrigation Industries, Startups working in water management sector, and Farmers Producer Organisations were present in the event.
Inaugurating the workshop, Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Manoj Ahuja emphasized on adoption of technologies in the implementation of the programmes and focused approach to enhancing micro-irrigation coverage.
He said, it can increase the overall efficiency and water productivity of agriculture for ensuring the food and nutrition security of the country and the incomes of the farmers, particularly in rainfed areas.
In his address, Secretary, Agricultural Research and Education Dr. Himanshu Pathak urged all participants to make efforts to adoption of micro-irrigation on large scale for reducing water footprint of agriculture sector.
During the programme, five Best Gram Panchayats from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu were recognized for their efforts in high micro-irrigation adoption and best practices in the water management sector.
