French Open-2023: Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina enter second round of Women’s Singles event in Paris
In Tennis, World number one Iga Swiatek launched her French Open title defence beating Spain’s Cristina Bucsa 6-4, 6-0 to move into the second round of Women’s Singles yesterday. Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina also moved into the second round after easing to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Czech player Brenda Fruhvirtova.
In Men’s Singles, world number two Daniil Medvedev was knocked out of the French Open by 172nd-ranked Thiago Seyboth Wild in the first round. Brazilian qualifier Wild stunned Medvedev in a five-set thriller at Roland Garros.
It was Medvedev’s fifth loss in the opening round at Roland Garros in seven appearances. In other matches, last year’s finalist Casper Ruud registered a straight-set win over Elias Ymer, while two-time semi-finalist Alexander Zverev moved past South African Lloyd Harris.
