Telangana: Govt announces de-addiction centres in all districts

0 422

The Telangana government announced that it has established at least one de-addiction centre in all 33 districts of the state to treat people addicted to alcohol or other drugs. Addicts are given free treatment, yoga therapy and counselling.

The setting up of new drug de-addiction centres in the state came a month after criticism from the High Court on the government’s delay in filing a response over the opening of such centres.

After the state reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, the residual state developed 18 de-addiction centres in 13 districts, while Telangana created none.

A social activist filed a Public Interest Litigation in the High Court in 2016, asking the state to open de-addiction centres in all districts. He had claimed that the state administration did not respond to the petition despite numerous adjournments.
