Karnataka elections: 73.19% voter turnout highest ever in the state history

Karnataka recorded the highest-ever voter turnout of 73.19 percent in its electoral history in the assembly elections held yesterday. The Election Commission has released the final figures of the polls. While 73 percent of the male voters have exercised their franchise, over 72 percent of the female voters have also cast their vote.

The state has surpassed its previous record of 72.44 percent polling in 2018 assembly elections and 71.83 percent of voter turnout in 2013 assembly polls. Amongst districts Chickaballapur has recorded the highest voter turnout of 85.56 percent; the lowest voter turnout of 52.33 per cent has been recorded in Bengaluru South district.

The voters in the capital city and IT hub Bengaluru have not turned up into the expected numbers even after the Election Commission’s decision to hold the poll in the middle of the week. However, the scene was different in Bengaluru Rural district which recorded a whopping voter turnout of 85.08 percent. Amongst the districts which have recorded a turnout of over 80 percent include Chamrajnagar, Chitradurga, Hassan, Haveri, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagaram, and Tumkur. The Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Meena has thanked the voters for turning up in record numbers in the assembly polls.
