IPL-2023: Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs in Chennai
Chennai Super Kings brushed aside Delhi Capitals on Wednesday (May 10) on a typical Chepauk surface to consolidate their second spot in the points table. After their batters helped them post 167 on the board, CSK took control by fetching three wickets in the powerplay and never allowed the momentum to slip away from there on as they picked up a 27-run win to move to 15 points.
Yes, the surface in Chennai has garnered a lot of attention ever since the season began. Quite surprisingly, we did see some big scores this season but the game against MI indicated that the wickets are finally tiring out. The game tonight was further proof of that as the ball didn’t come on to the bat, gripped at times and made life difficult for the batters during certain phases. Spinners from both teams had a very good outing but it’s the home side that reigned supreme.
CSK are edging closer to the playoff spot. But they are surely not going to look further ahead of the two points they fetched tonight. Their next target is to reach 17 points and a win over KKR in their next game would give them that. The Capitals have to face CSK again, this time at home but prior to that, they will be facing Punjab Kings twice.
Scores: Chennai Super Kings 167/8 in 20 overs (Shivam Dube 25; Mitchell Marsh 3/18, Axar Patel 2/18) beat Delhi Capitals 140/8 in 20 overs (Rilee Rossouw 35; Matheesha Pathirana 3/37, Deepak Chahar 2/28) by 27 runs.
