Karnataka Election: Tight arrangements for tomorrow’s assembly polls: EC calls on voters to exercise their right to vote freely

In Karnataka, voting for assembly elections will take place tomorrow. Polling will begin at 7 AM and continue till 6 PM. A total of 2,615 candidates are in fray for the 224 assembly constituencies. BJP has fielded its candidates on all 224 seats.

Congress is fighting on 223 seats and JD(S) is contesting on 209 seats. Aam Aadmi Party has also fielded its candidates on 209 seats. 

The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for conducting free and fair elections. Around three lakh polling personnel have been deployed to conduct the polls.

Polling officials have gathered in their respective mustering centres to collect EVMs and other election-related material. They are likely to be ferried to their respective polling booths by the evening.

Akashvani correspondent reports, As per the data made available by the Election Commission, polling will be held at fifty-eight thousand five hundred forty-five polling stations.

The Election Commission is putting all efforts to attract the maximum number of voters to the polling booths.

A total number of two thousand two hundred fifty-eight model polling stations have been designed. Theme-based polling booths have also been designed to attract voters.

Election Commission has assured to provide all minimum facilities at polling booths like separate toilets for men and women, drinking water, fans, ramps, parking space etc.

Special arrangements have also been made for the convenience of the Persons with Disabilities coming to polling booths for voting.

Meanwhile, Seizures totalling over 375 crores have recorded so far in the ongoing Karnataka assembly elections. The recorded seizures in the state mark a significant 4.5 times increase as compared to last state assembly polls. This includes seizure of over 147 crore rupees cash, liquor worth over 83 crore rupees and drugs of around 24 crore rupees.

The Election Commission said that strict vigil, extensive monitoring, coordination with neighboring states and inter-agency coordination has led to checking flow and distribution of inducements in Karnataka this time.

The Commission has deputed 146 expenditure observers in the state for stricter vigil and monitoring. The Enforcement Directorate has also attached assets worth 288 crore rupees  after the imposition of Model Code of Conduct in the state.
