Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will begin his season at the Diamond League in Doha today. Last year, 25-year-old Chopra became the first Indian athlete to be crowned Diamond League champion by winning the grand final in Zurich in September.

Before that, Tokyo 2020 champion Chopra became the first Indian to win a Diamond League event in Lausanne in August and bettered his national javelin record at the Stockholm Diamond League in June with an 89.94m throw.
This year, Chopra will face reigning world javelin champion Anderson Peters from Grenada, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic, European champion Julian Weber from Germany, and former Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago in a stacked field.
India will also have representation in men’s triple jump as Commonwealth Games champion Eldhose Paul will make his Diamond League debut. Diamond League is an annual series of top-tier track and field competitions organised by World Athletics.

The meeting in Doha is the first leg of the Diamond League series, culminating with the two-day Diamond League Final in Eugene, US on 16th and 17th of September.
