Srinagar-Kargil road remains closed for 8th consecutive day amid fresh snowfall and avalanche
The Srinagar-Kargil road remained closed for the 8th consecutive day on Monday following the fresh snowfall and avalanches along the Zojila Pass on the road.
The highway was closed on the 18th of this month after a snow avalanche hit vehicles near Shaitan Nallah Zojila got eight vehicles mostly trucks laden with eatables buried beneath the snow.
Border Roads Organisation had declared that the highway will remain closed till the 22nd of April, because of road widening. However, today also the highway remained shut due to snowfall. In view of snow accumulation/avalanches there shall be ‘no vehicular movement’ on 25-04-2023 (Tuesday) through Zojila, said the Police Traffic advisory,
Meanwhile, scores of passenger vehicles as well as trucks are stationed at Sonmarg and on the side of Drass and Kargil waiting for the nod from the administration.
