Karnataka Elections: April 20 is the last day to file nominations for assembly elections

In Karnataka, many senior leaders filed their nominations today for the May 10th Assembly elections. 935 candidates including 62 women filed nomination papers today. With this, more than 3,000 nomination papers have been filed so far.

Tomorrow is the last day for filing nomination papers. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai today filed his nomination papers from Shiggaon’s seat after holding a roadshow.

He was accompanied by BJP National President J P Nadda, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi and Kannada film star Kitcha Sudeep. Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah filed his nomination from Varuna. Jagadish Shetter who joined Congress recently, filed his nomination from Hubli-Dharwad Central constituency.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior leader from Congress Dr. G Parameshwar filed his nomination from Koratagere while  BJP patriarch and former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s son B Y Vijendra filed his nomination from Shikaripur in Shivamogga district. 

Meanwhile, JD-S has released its third and fourth lists of 66 candidates. BJP has declared its candidates on all seats with a final list of two candidates. Our correspondent reports that most of the parties have declared their list of star campaigners:  

Both BJP and Congress have issued a list of their star campaigners. In the BJP’s list of 40 names, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president J.P Nadda’s names are the most prominent.

Apart from this, senior leaders of the party Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states and prominent faces of the State BJP are also included in this list. In the list of star campaigners of Congress, National President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi are prominent faces.

Apart from this, the names of General Secretary KC Venugopal, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, State Congress President DK Shivakumar and Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states are included. HD Kumaraswamy is leading the election campaign for Janata Dal-Secular. The election campaign of Aam Aadmi Party will be led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan.
